T.Surge arrester with improved reliability and protection level for low bandwidth data communication in high voltage installations[electronic resource] /W.M.T. Vijayananda [and] Sanath Alahakoon.Piscataway, NJ :IEEE,2010.6 p. ;Surge protection of data communication systems in high voltage installations such as power generation utilities is a challenging task. One major reason is the induction of high voltage switching surges in signal cables that carry sensor and transducer data. The other important aspect is the repetitive protection capability of the surge protector without self destruction after undergoing a few surge suppression cycles. Some essential features in this type of surge arresters are to provide protection against sudden voltage differences between different earth locations and protection against high voltages induced in signal transmission lines. The proposed SurgeArrester in this paper successfully addresses all these key issuesto provide better surge protection for communication equipment in High Voltage Installations.Vijayananda, W & Alahakoon, S 2010, 'Surge arrester with improved reliability and protection level for low bandwidth data communication in high voltage installations' in Proceedings of AUPEC 2010, 20th Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference: “Power Quality for the 21st Century”, 5–8 December, Christchurch, New Zealand, IEEE, Piscataway, NJ.TBA Research Grant.en-ausERA EligibleTransients (Electricity)TBA.ANZSRC (2008) : Type of Activity (TOA)anzsrctoaTBA.ANZSRC (2008) : Socio-economic objective (SEO)anzsrcseoTBA.ANZSRC (2008) : Fields of Research (FoR)anzsrcforData transmission systems.Surge protector --Transient voltage suppressor --Common mode voltage --Differential mode voltage --Earth voltage rise --Reflected surgeConference Paper.Full Paper (Refereed)herdcACQUIRECollectionHERDCCollectionERACollectionAlahakoon, Sanath.Central Queensland University.Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health.Central Queensland University. Not affiliated to a Research Institute.QCQUSri Lanka.Vidulibala Maṇḍalaya.Central Queensland University.Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health.Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference(2010 :Christchurch, N.Z.)[electronic resource]Proceedings of Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC 2010) : Power quality of the 21st century, Christchurch, New Zealand, 5-8 December 2010 / R.
