The perceived barriers to implementing a midwifery model of care in a tertiary hospital

<p>This report aims to identify the barriers to implementing a midwifery model of care in the Royal Darwin Hospital. A Government directive was the catalyst to implement the model, however this precedes along history of consumer complaint and government review (Northern Territory Government Media Release, October 2002).</p> <p><br></p> <p>The official project spans over a period of fourteen months with an immediate preceding history of nineteen months relating to other government directives. The directives affecting the project were to develop and implement a caseload midwifery model of care and to plan a birth centre (Northern Territory Government Media Release October, 2002).</p>
