The communication and learning characteristics of the millennial generation and the implications for teaching international students
The Millennial generation, born between 1980 and 1995, are sometimes depicted as hedonistic, lazy, disrespectful and disloyal by other generations. This view contributes to the concern within the higher education structure as to how to communicate and engage with this generation. The research reviews both positive and negative generational attributes as they relate to the international millennial students studying at CQUniversity.
The research discusses the international millennials' learning expectations and their demand to be part of their educational development. The research has reviewed a variety of traditional and non-traditional academic pedagogy, including the use of multimodal technologies as it applies to the learning engagement of the international millennial students.
Through this research, recommendations have been made on how to engage the international millennial student in higher education, while supporting the generations demand for more involvement in their learning environment.
