The following report forms part of a larger study undertaken by the University of Queensland into the value of drive tourism in Queensland from an economic and social perspective. The research was funded by the Rural Economies Centre of Excellence. The aim of the research discussed in this report was to examine demand and supply side elements of drive tourism on the Atherton Tablelands. The Atherton Tablelands was selected as a case study because of its role as a major destination for interstate, intrastate and local drive tourists and because the tourism industry provides a valuable ‘top-up’ to the region’s predominantly agricultural sector. The research also provides valuable insights that can be used for a future more extensive study involving a possible electronic survey of the Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) members.
