Specifically the Council was: to provide expert advice and direction to the Australian Government on measures to reduce the prevalence and effect of sexual assault and domestic and family violence on victims; to consult widely across government and the community in the development of the plan; and provide leadership for sustaining change in the identification of best practice policy, program and service development which will prevent violence against women and their children.
