"Privatisation of the Australian Tourist Commission, mooted several times during its history, was recently proposed in the Industries Assistance Commission Draft Report on Travel and Tourism. Incorporation with scaled down government funding over a three year period was mooted, but an aggressive industry response dismissed the possibility of levy based industry funding and argued the need for at least equal assistance to other major export industries. The Australian Tourist Commission has steadily increased its industry input relative to government support, but seeks only marginal annual increases in operator support despite strong recommendations by the Kennedy Inquiry in 1986 for maximum revenue from promotional tools."--Executive Summary.
