Structural timber technology education & research in tropical Australia

This paper gives backround of the author's educational institution and describes a unique external study course - the Graduate Diploma in Structural Timber Technology - offered by the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education (CIAE) in Queensland, Australia. The course began in February 1984 and caters for architects, engineers, forestors, managers, and scientists. The CIAE Timber and Wood Products Research Centre is also described along with current projects. Work in other Queensland tertiary institutions is cited.
