This report provides a detailed evaluation of the Nurse and Midwife Navigator1 role conducted between March 2018 and August 2021, with retrospective access to hospital utilisation data. The evaluation was funded by the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (OCNMO). The aim was to examine the novel nurse and midwife navigator role implemented by Queensland Health in 2016, as part of the Nursing Guarantee Policy by the Queensland Labor Government. The commitment was to fund 400 nurse and midwife navigator positions, that were allocated to the 16 hospital and health services (HHS) over four years [1]. During the four-year implementation phase, funding and support for the navigator positions was provided by OCNMO, with funding, thereafter, to be distributed to HHS for ongoing employment of navigator roles.
