Positive futures for mining communities : strategic directions

The impetus for this document originated in November 2000 with the Positive Futures in Mining Communities Forum which was held in Moranbah. As a result, the Forum Committee identified a need to produce a short 3 to 4 page document progressing the issues identified by the Forum. The Institute for Sustainable Regional Development was engaged for this purpose and recommendations are currently being prepared for government. This Occasional Paper provides the 'background story' to those recommendations. Its publication by the Institute is in recognition of the need to disseminate up-to-date information about the mining industry that will be useful to many stakeholder groups in the industry.--Foreword.
