report
posted on 2017-12-06, 00:00 authored by M Singh
"Curriculum imperialism refers to the way in which the dominant meanings of a society as expressed in curriculum, policies, sourcebooks, syllabi, frameworks and textbooks render the particular perspective of structurally disadvantaged groups invisible at the same time as they stereotype these groups and mark them out as "other" (Young 1990a)...Cultural imperialism involves the universalisation of a dominant group's experience and culture, and its establishment as the norm. The dominant group, often unwittingly, projects its own experiences, perspectives and interests as representative of all social grooups. Dominant groups use their power to ensure exclusive or primary access to the means of interpretation and communication in a society."--p. 3.
