This report is the second in a report series about the social and economic impacts of coal mining on regional communities in the Bowen Basin region of Queensland. As outlined in the first report (Rolfe et al. 2005), the coal mining industry makes a key contribution to the Queensland economy and is the underlying driver of employment and economic conditions in many local and regional communities. Current high levels of growth in the industry are increasing output, spending, employment and population in many regional areas with associated economic and social impacts.
