We approximate the direct use benefits associated with marginal changes in water quality in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR), Australia, from the angle of ecosystem service (ES) valuation.
We introduce a conceptual framework for valuing marginal changes in benefits provided by the GBR resulting from changes in water quality. We:
i. explore ES affected by changes in water quality in the GBR
ii. review valuation studies for the GBR
iii. derive marginal benefits linked to marginal changes in ES provision
iv. conduct the analysis for six major regions of the GBR.
