By not measuring Indigenous values through Western-focussed frameworks such as the SEEA-EA, Indigenous perspectives are often overlooked in management decisions, and their voices, values, and cultures not represented. Bridging the gap between Indigenous and scientific knowledge is vital for the development of sustainability. To achieve this, we must “weave” knowledge systems together – collaboration which maintains the integrity of all perspectives. We must recognise that blindly transforming and integrating knowledge may be harmful, and thus, cross-knowledge system collaboration must be empowering and equitable.
