Performing the castaway

media
posted on 2018-03-02, 00:00 authored by Susan DavisSusan Davis
This script explores new research-led practice methodologies to create a dramatic script that explores the historical narratives of female castaways. In particular it explores the interactive performance of meaning drawing on historical texts, archival research, the researcher, the writer, the character and the performer. It explores the practice of scriptwriting as creative practice, creative writing and research. In creating new texts the content focuses on the accounts of the Australian female castaway Barbara Crawford. Combining facto-critical voices and dramatic action the script builds the audiences acquaintance with a historical character, questioning issues of identity and historical reckonings.
