Culturally sensitive care is an area of nursing that falls under the
moral principles stated within the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights (United Nations, 1948). In particular, Article 1 declares the
baseline position:
All people are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
Further clarification is provided under Article 2, which states:
Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms… without
distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language,
religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin.
