Mental health nurses deliver safe and recovery-oriented
healthcare to people experiencing serious mental illness,
substance use disorders, and/or complex behavioural issues
(Stewart et al., 2022). Although mental illness comprises
some ten percent of the global burden of disease (Stewart
et al., 2022), there are only 3.8 mental health nurses, on
average, for every 100,000 people across 158 countries
worldwide (World Health Organization, 2021). These statistics
suggest that mental health nurses are a limited resource
and, therefore, under pressure.
