Goodwill is a kindly or benevolent feeling of approval, support,
or interest that a person or group of people feel
towards others (Hungerford et al., 2016). In the business
world, goodwill is an intangible asset or value that cannot be
attributed to actual income or income-producing material
but rather to the positive attitude and loyalty of businesses
or customers to others. In academic institutions, goodwill
enables employees to support one another, nurture students,
and build a positive culture. In this column, we consider the
notion of goodwill in nursing academia, the loss of that
goodwill over the years, and how this goodwill can be
regained.
