This case study originally was an examination of teachers and the system of curriculum development and criteria-based assessment known as ROSBA (Review of School-Based Assessment). It reveals the paradoxes and contradictions implicit in the system. It reveals that the meaning of "education" is considered to be synonymous with asessment. The tension between this ideology and a "humanistic" view of education becomes explicit.
