In this paper, potential synthesis cases in distributed expert systems (DESs) are identified by a fuzzy logic approach. A basic framework of this approach is proposed, different fuzzy membership functions are defined, and a fuzzy rule base is introduced in detail. Furthermore, examples are used to demonstrate the performance of this approach in special cases and general cases. This research is to overcome the limitations of classifications of solution synthesis in DESs and offers the guideline for designing and selecting correct strategies in different cases.
