Qualitative researchers who practice arts-based inquiry need to be able to identify what it is that they are really doing. Is it research? Is it art? Does one necessarily collapse into the other and does it matter? If the researcher is really just doing art, and if that doesn’t matter, then is that researcher reinventing the wheel—naively embarking on a field that has been well served by writers of renown? And does it matter? Yes, I think it does.
