The drive to eat in general, regardless of demographics considerations and physiological requirements, is strongly influenced by psychological motivations such as emotion. However, the diagnosis of a chronic health condition often necessitates lifestyle changes, in particular dietary adjustments, in order to effectively manage the condition. S172 Int.J. Behav. Med. (2016) 23 (Suppl 1):S1–S261 This paper explores the food choice motivations of adults diagnosed with a chronic illness where dietary adjustments are required or recommended as treatment mechanisms (e.g. diabetes, food allergy, heart disease).
