In February 2006 a survey was conducted using postal questionnaires to collect data about public perceptions of flood hazards, levels of preparedness and warnings in four communities in the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley, New South Wales, Australia. The survey was conducted in Penrith, McGraths Hill, Windsor and Richmond. The results of the 2005 questionnaire survey are described in Becker et al. (2008).This report presents the results of a follow-up survey undertaken in April 2008 for the same four communities. One thousand questionnaires were delivered to the same households surveyed in 2006. The survey included questions on: awareness of flooding hazards, risk perception, previous exposure to flooding, information received concerning preparedness activities, information sought for preparedness purposes, and the extent to which people engaged or plan to engage in preparedness activities. The results of this survey contribute to an on-going programme which measures changes in preparedness, and response to warnings. Having a programme such as this allows for the on-going evaluation of flood education programmes (by way of a comparison survey), and for the identification and utilisation of effective strategies for flood preparedness and warnings.
