Based on the work we have published in this space, we would like to endorse the article by Langkjaer et al. (2023) published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing in January 2023, ‘How nurses use National Early Warning Score and Individual Early Warning Score to support their patient risk assessment practice: A fieldwork study’. The new Individual Early Warning Score (I-EWS) introduced in the Langkjaer paper is one of the first to include an explicit critical thinking criterion. We believe the inclusion of the critical thinking criterion will revolutionize how Early Warning Score (EWS) decision-making tools are used by clinicians and facilitate early and effective treatment for hospitalized patients.
