This paper describes a method for the evaluation of the limit loads for existing reinforced concrete (RC) frames using the current AS 3600 provisions. The method particularly focuses on the columns although a specific case of the method covers beams. The method is based on an iterative process for the evaluation of limit live load for RCframes, which conforms to the level of safety implied in AS 3600. Although the method could be applied for RC frames with short and slender columns, examples are provided for slender columns only as they are relatively more complex.
