Background. White Cypress Pine (Callitris glaucophylla J. Thompson & L.A.S. Johnson) occurs in all Australian mainland states, typically in the 400- to 700-mm rainfall zone. Extensive commercial use has been made of White Cypress Pine for structural timber because of its wide availability, and its drought and termite resistance (Johnston & Jennings 1991). Dense forests occur in north-west New South Wales, especially in the Pilliga region, on soils of low nutrient status and/or poor soil structure.
