A decision support framework for sustainable waste management

The development of a decision support framework as described in this article stemmed from a critical review of the previously published approaches to the assessment of management systens for municipal solid waste (MSW) or its components. These earlier frameworks were found to be deficient when a waste management system was required to be assessed against the principles of sustainability which now provides the basis for planning and environmental legislation in Queensland, other states of Australia and most developed nations.
