Sweetpotato plantbed research data and R code files.
This project investigated management practices for improving the quantity and quality of planting material produced by on-farm, sweetpotato nursery plant beds. It investigated models for characterising the size and shape of sweetpotatoes used as bedding roots in the plant beds. Research was undertaken into the impacts of sweetpotato size and shape on the efficiency of plant bed installation, as well as production of sprouts from the beds. The impacts of cultivar selection, and nitrogen nutrition, on the performance of plant beds was also investigated. Field research was undertaken at the Gatton Research Facility in Southeast Queensland, as well as with collaborating sweetpotato growers in Queensland (Bundaberg, Esk), and Northern NSW (Cudgen). Research into modelling individual sweetpotato shape, as well as data analysis and thesis preparation were undertaken in Mount Beauty, Victoria.
