Mentorship is the process of sharing knowledge among professionals. In academia, mentorship means training teachers to acquire new techniques to improve overall teaching skills. In other words, mentorship can help teachers to teach better. Previous studies have pointed out that many doctoral students have a limited online teaching experience in a higher education environment. Besides, in the wake of COVID-19, as universities worldwide were forced to move their lessons to online mode, lecturers have had to adapt to this new reality. Hence, the aim of this study is to provide a literature review on how mentorship can be used in higher education for training and improving learning and teaching skills among doctoral students. The literature findings of this study will provide new insights in the field as well as it will contribute to the current knowledge on the subject matter.
