This paper will discuss the emergence of trade unions and the first recorded strike at the Lakes Creek meatworks in Rockhampton. It will assess the place of these organisations and of this strike in the history of industrial relations at this abattoir. Furthermore the paper will address these issues within the context of the history of labour at this plant and within the meat processing industry in Queensland.
