Francis Bacon famously distinguished between four kinds of errors of the understanding, or four kinds of “Idols” as he called them, in Novum Organum. But there is no reason necessarily to draw the line at four. I will propose a fifth, the “Idol of the Tower”, and link it to some prominent recent research on the topic of “international” education at universities in Australia.
