Study on preload of draft gear in heavy haul trains
conference contribution
posted on 2018-09-13, 00:00 authored by Qing WuQing Wu, Colin ColeColin Cole, SH LuoFor a better understanding of the implications of draft gear preload for heavy haul train dynamics and wagon stability, parametric draft gear models along with wagon body and bogie pitch models were integrated into detailed Longitudinal Train Dynamics (LTD) simulations. A typical unit train consisting of 100 wagons and 3 locomotives was simulated by two simulators (TPL-LTD and CRE-LTS) so as to study both LTD and Train-Wagon dynamics. Simulations were performed on a hypothetical tangent flat track. Coupler forces were compared in terms of time history patterns and maximum values, correspondingly wagon accelerations were assessed. The implications of preload for both LTD and Train-Wagon dynamics were assessed, in particular in relation to wagon body and bogie pitch dynamics.
