Structures to improve entrepreneurial activity : a case study around citrus producers of Nepal

conference contribution
posted on 2017-12-06, 00:00 authored by Wendy Hillman
In Nepal, orange production provides higher returns to farmers compared to other annual crops. Integration of oranges into the farming system brings substantial improvement to the income of farming households in the mid-hills where farm sizes are small and produce barely enough to sustain farm families’ living from annual crops. The overall goal of the project is to reduce poverty among poor people, particularly “excluded” (landless and disadvantaged) groups (e.g. Dalits, Indigenous Nationalities, and Religious Minorities) in the western and mid-western mid-hills of Nepal. Agricultural enterprises employ about 66 percent of the economically active population in Nepal, and the Agriculture Perspective Plan (APP) emphasises mandarin as a priority crop for Nepal’s agricultural development.
