Self-directed learning : a strategy for lifelong learning

Government inquiries into higher education have raised societal and instutional awareness of the expectations of higher education and focused attention on the need to develop strategies that promote the pursuit of lifelong learning. While self-directed learning is not considered a panacea for adult learning it does appear to provide an appropriate response to challenging societal and educational demands.
