Choosing a Computer Based Training (CBT) authoring language is a daunting task. With in excess of one hundred major packages on offer for
microcomputers, errors are costly in terms of scarce capital, opportunities foregone, and human resources wasted. Selection criteria must be
matched with learner needs and training requirements of an organisation and not be technology driven. This paper will trace the process involved in
selecting a package for a large government statutory authority. The selection process documented will assist other large government and private
organisations rapidly select a suitable CBT authoring system.
