Lifelong learning is an important hallmark of a civilised society and has been recognised by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training as one of its key graduate attributes. Furthermore, Central Queensland University has identified seven generic skills that underpin all the teaching and learning programs of the university and these include the ability to inquire, evaluate and use information effectively. This paper will consider the community engagement activities of lecture recitals that are conducted at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) and the opportunities for lifelong learning that are created through these programs of music and information. It will also discuss the effectiveness of these lecture recitals in addressing the generic skills that underlie the teaching and learning programs of CQCM.
