Learning as a literacy

The term 'literacy' is used in many contexts such as language literacy, technological literacy and economic literacy. Similarly, conceptualising learning as a literacy has the potential to help advance lifelong learning away from an institutionally-bounded activity and more toward that of a generic skill worthwhile to retain for life.
