In this essay I examine the state and status of lifelong learning as deliberated at three key international events held in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom during 2000-01. I explore conceptualizations and trends shaping lifelong-learning discourse at these events, and I consider and critique presented parameters of instrumental, social and cultural forms of lifelong learning.
