Differing context of and rationale for internationalising higher education have generated different foci of initiatives. Regardless, internationalisation of higher education involves the process of responding to the changed outlook of the institutions as a result of globalisation. The paper discusses some of the ways in which institutions worldwide are negotiating internationalisation. It particularly illuminates how internationalisation affects institutions (with a particular reference to Australian and Indonesian institutions) in terms of their teaching and learning, staff members, students and programs. The paper also discusses other issues beyond that exert a significant impact on the practice of internationalisation.
