This paper outlines a possible program for postgraduate research degrees in creative and professional writing with the aim of generating further debate on the topic. Such postgraduate programs, this paper suggests, may provide a framework for not only the timely completion of research candidates' theses, but also for a broader education of students, including in professional and vocational areas. Other benefits include the potential to reduce anxiety for candidates and, by promoting a more collaborative, "communityof practice" teaching and learning environment, the facilitation of a range of additional benefits for supervisors and the higher education institution as a whole.
