Factors inhibiting university-industry collaboration (UIC) in Australian Business Schools: A view from the trenches

conference contribution
posted on 2019-04-29, 00:00 authored by P Holland, C Nyland, Xiaoyan Liang, TL Tham
Whilst Australian universities continue to rise in the rankings on many metrics used around the world, Australia is ranked lowest among the 28 OECD countries in Universities-Industry Collaboration (UIC). This paper explores this paradox through the research findings of a forum of institutional representatives of Australian and New Zealand universities held at the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) conference in 2017. Through this analysis and drawing upon existing literature, this paper proposes several structures, strategies and incentives, which could be implemented at the individual, departmental and university-level to address this lack of linkages between business schools and industry.
