As a form of recreation, escape rooms have been steadily growing in popularity over the last decade. More recently, the escape room concept has been used in educational settings, applying the principles of gamification and game-based
learning to increase student engagement. This paper presents a systematic literature review, providing an overview of research into the practice of designing and implementing educational escape rooMs Results indicate that the use of
escape rooms in educational settings is rapidly increasing across a wide range of disciplines, further supporting their application to management education. The findings from the systematic literature review are then used to develop an
agenda for future research into the design and implementation of escape rooms for management education.
