"4ZZZ grew from idealism of the radical student movement of the 1960's. The ideology was that of the New Left; a critical, democratic movement with its origins in the radical, non communist Students for Democratic Society which had emerged in US universities. New Leftists saw themselves as Social activists: people who acted as the conscience and voice of individuals within a society. They addressed and challenged the authorities on ethIcal and moral, and human rights issues."
