Earthquake hazard in the Gladstone region

The Australian mainland is generally regarded as “safe” from earthquakes because it is not near an active boundary between major tectonic plates. Despite this, it does experience substantial seismic activity and occasional major earthquake events. One of the most active areas in Queensland is the Bundaberg-Gladstone region.
