This paper reports on the comparison of a tailored evolutionary algorithm and the popular Iterative Dynamic Programming technique for solving Continuous Optimal Control Problems. The results of applying both techniques to two standard examples show that the evolutionary algorithm is comparable to the well established competitor. The analysis also shows that there is the possibility of synergies between the two algorithms.
