Challenges in field-trial corrosion measurement

conference contribution
posted on 2017-12-06, 00:00 authored by Jason Connor, David Druskovich
This paper discusses some of the issues that need to be considered when conducting field trials using corrosion measurements in the context of evaluating corrosion mitigation strategies. These issues range from the interpretation and limitations of the corrosion measurement technique (in our case we relied on linear polarisation resistance measurements) as well as broad operational considerations. Although the content of the paper is based on experience within an alumina refinery many of the lessons learnt in the course of this work are applicable beyond the alumina industry. Specific issues that are raised and discussed include problems such as selection of appropriate monitoring equipment; data collection, validation and interpretation; and relating plant operations to the data.
