The paper considers a methodology for conducting a joint probability analysis on storm tides and waves in order to evaluate appropriate conditions for risk- based analyses of sea conditions in a process of design beach protection. The methodology was verified based on 9 years of simultaneous data records of waves and high tides for the Keppel Bay in Queensland, Australia. The methodology considers the application of the bivariate form of General Pareto Distribution (GPD) with freely selected threshold values.
