Students enrolled in distance programs have traditionally been isolated and their learning has been solitary. E-mail discussion lists are used at Central Queensland University to facilitate communication between students - both on-campus and off-campus - and their lecturers. Using analysis of interactions and 'conversations' within a learning environment, this paper investigates how E-mail discussion lists facilitate learning.
