This study investigates the role of community engagement in the development of long-term coastal destination planning in a destination that is likely to experience adverse impacts from climate change in future decades. The study has commenced with a review of the literature on sustainable coastal tourism development, frameworks in sustainable development, the role of community in long-term sustainable coastal tourism development and the likely impacts of climate change. The outcome of the research is anticipated to be either an improved existing model or framework such as (Aspinall, 2006) Social Sustainability Framework or a new model. The research will be undertaken in the Livingstone Shire, Queensland with a specific focus on the seaside resort of Yeppoon.
