The Learning Management construct essentially seeks to re-orientate educational practice from an industrialised model, as exemplified by ‘teaching and schooling’, to one that embraces the attributes of knowledge and creativity-based economy, where all learners make learning gains. This chapter outlines the notion of Learning Design – a central learning management tenet – by firstly critiquing the common teacher constructs of curriculum planning and classroom teaching. This lays the foundations for the introduction of the learning management design process known as the 8 Learning Management Questions. These questions are a set of sequential design-based questions that enable a learning manager to ‘design learning experiences that produce intended learning outcomes’. For the student of learning management the chapter provides the foundations for a ‘how to approach’ when designing, delivering and assessing learning programs.
