After traumatic brain injury (TBI), people often have difficulty with many aspects of social cognition (Figure 14–1). Social cognition deficits contribute to an array of negative outcomes, including poor interpersonal communication, inappropriate social behaviors and interactions, difficulties recognizing boundaries, problems building and maintaining personal relationships, troubled family dynamics, and employment challenges and failures. As a result, people with TBI often face isolation, lack of satisfaction in life, and poor emotional well-being.
